How She Melted Into Me
My love and I have a new ritual. At the beginning and the end of each day, I sit myself down, pull her into my lap, and she wraps her legs around me. I hold her in this lotus position, resting our heads on one another, while we simply sync our breaths.
This morning, I sensed a tension in my breath while following hers. It was short, fast... shallow. I softly whispered in her ear, "Let's slow down, just follow me."
Instantly, I felt her softening, like a marshmallow, melting into me.
Her body spoke to me: "this is where I'm at". This wasn't about cognitive knowledge. This was embodied wisdom. Words tap into the mind, so fall short when our bodies and emotions speak.
Then, an hour later, I came across this quote from the movie Pierrot le Fou. A couple is at the beach, and he says: "Who do you look so sad?"
To which she replies: "Because you speak to me in words, and I look at you with feelings."
It reminded me of the meaning of this morning's sweet moment. It shows how we often speak from different places: our bodies, hearts, and minds aren’t always aligned. How often do we, as men, speak with our heads while our partners feel with their hearts?
So remember: true connection doesn’t always need words. Sometimes, it’s about slowing down, syncing up, and feeling into each other. Sync your breaths. Or simply gaze into each other's eyes without talking. Or do both at the same time.
Why not give it a try?
